Identity design

Visual identity design: logo, color palette, typography, and a visual system with graphic patterns. We explore several creative directions, present each with the reasoning behind it, and refine until a brand book documents the full identity.

Expression system

Building the brand's voice system: a tone of voice that gives the brand its distinctive sound across every piece of content. Writing the tone-of-voice guide plus founding content, the brand manifesto, and key messages, with examples for teams to use.

Brand activation

Brand activation: rollout across every digital and physical touchpoint, phased or all at once. Teams get trained through hands-on workshops, and a launch campaign brings the new identity to life if needed.

What's the difference between branding and marketing, and why does branding matter?
Branding and marketing are complementary, but they're different in nature and function. Branding defines WHO you are at the core: your identity, your unique positioning, your fundamental values, your promise, your personality, your reason for being. It's the strategic and emotional foundation of your business. Marketing communicates WHAT you do: your products, your services, your commercial offers, your promotions, your campaigns. It's the tactical layer built on top of that branding foundation. A simple way to picture it: branding is the architecture of your house - the solid foundations, the load-bearing structure, the architectural style - while marketing is the interior design and furnishing: the furniture you can swap out, the colours you can change, the campaigns you can refresh. Branding always comes first and guides everything else: when your brand identity is clear and strong, every marketing action becomes more effective, more consistent, more memorable. Do marketing without solid branding, on the other hand, and you're building on sand: every campaign feels disconnected from the last, nothing compounds over time, and you never build a lasting asset. Branding matters because it's what creates differentiation (why choose you over a competitor), preference (an emotional attachment beyond the rational), and perceived value (which justifies premium pricing).
Won't a rebrand disrupt my existing customers, who are used to my current identity?
Not if it's well thought through and well executed. A smart rebrand evolves your brand rather than overhauling it overnight: we keep the elements your customers are attached to and that already work (sometimes it's a signature colour, sometimes an element of the logo, sometimes a tone of voice), we improve whatever's causing problems today (dated elements, a confused identity, unclear positioning), and we add whatever's missing to help you reach your new goals (a more modern feel, clarity, differentiation). The result is a natural, coherent evolution, not an incomprehensible break with the past. The key to getting it right: communicate proactively with your existing customers about why you're evolving (why you're changing, what it actually means for them, what stays the same in terms of your commitment and quality of service), bring them along emotionally through the transition (storytelling the process, teasers, a gradual reveal), and above all maintain, beyond the visual change, the quality and reliability that built their trust in the first place. Studies show customers generally understand and even appreciate it when a brand they like evolves to stay relevant and current, as long as the essence of what drew them in originally is still there. Our approach ensures exactly that: reassuring continuity within necessary change.
Is a logo on its own a complete brand identity, or do you need more?
Absolutely not. Thinking that logo equals brand is a common but costly mistake. A logo is just one element among many in a complete brand identity. A genuinely strong brand identity includes: clear strategic positioning (who you are, what makes you unique, what promise you're making), a documented brand platform (mission, vision, values that guide your actions), a complete visual system (logo, yes, but also a colour palette, typography, photographic style, graphic elements), a tone of voice and editorial territory (how you express yourself in words), and guidelines that document all of it to ensure consistency. The logo represents only 10-15% of a full branding project. Plenty of businesses have a decent logo but a weak brand identity: they don't really know who they are, they communicate inconsistently, and they fail to stand out. Conversely, some of the strongest brands have fairly simple logos but an overall identity that's instantly recognisable across every touchpoint. Our job is to build that overall consistency, where every element reinforces the others to create a brand that's genuinely memorable and impactful.
How do I actually measure the success and impact of my branding investment?
The impact of a branding project is measured across several complementary levels. Recognition and awareness metrics: spontaneous and prompted brand awareness (measured through qualitative and quantitative research), immediate visual recognition (people identify your brand without seeing the name), and recall of your promise or positioning. Preference and consideration metrics: improved stated purchase intent, a rising Net Promoter Score, a higher rate of recommendation to peers, and a growing share of consideration within your sector (you make the shortlist). Value and pricing metrics: the premium pricing you can now justify without customer pushback (the ability to charge more for your products or services), the brand value perceived by your audiences and partners, and your business's overall valuation in the event of fundraising or an acquisition. Direct business metrics: an improved conversion rate on your website and throughout your sales funnel, a lower customer acquisition cost (your strong brand does the selling and the reassuring before the first contact even happens), stronger customer loyalty and retention (people stay attached to your brand), and a far greater ability to attract and retain quality talent (your employer brand becomes a competitive asset). Good branding also shows up in important qualitative signals: the pride and engagement of your own teams (they proudly represent your brand), the enthusiastic, unprompted feedback from customers and partners, and how much easier it becomes to roll your brand out across every touchpoint (everything gets simpler and more consistent once the identity is clear and strong). We help you define the right KPIs to track based on your original goals and context, and measure how they evolve over time so you can prove the real ROI of your branding investment and justify continuing it.
Should my Lyon-based startup or SME really invest in branding right now?
Yes - investing in branding now is essential for your Lyon-based startup or SME, not something to put off until 'later'. Without a strong brand, you're invisible and interchangeable in a crowded market. Solid branding lets you differentiate, justify pricing 15-30% higher, attract the best talent, and make your advertising and digital communication perform better across every channel. Choosing a specialist Lyon communication agency doesn't have to mean spending €80k: an agile approach for €20-35k lays the right foundations - clear positioning, a professional logo and visual identity, a consistent style guide, and guidelines for your website and social media. Communication agency services should include an audit of your current situation, strategic advice on your unique positioning within the Lyon metropolitan area's economic fabric, the creation of an original brand that stirs genuine emotion, and rollout across all your channels (social media, advertising, events). A forward-thinking agency understands Lyon's ecosystem and adapts its approach to your stage of growth. Branding isn't cosmetic - it's a strategic growth lever: put it off now and it will cost you ten times as much to fix later. A Lyon startup with a strong brand from day one maximises its visibility, attracts both customers and talent, and multiplies its chances of success in a competitive environment.
