TAM SAM SOM & target accounts calculator 2026

Size your addressable market, then turn it into a list of accounts to work every quarter.

Size mode returns TAM, SAM, SOM and the number of ICP companies. Prioritize mode splits your target list into Tier 1, 2 and 3 and checks whether it can hold your revenue objective.

How to use the TAM SAM SOM calculator

In Size my market mode, enter the number of companies in your total market, your average contract value, the share that fits your ICP and the share you can realistically win in three years. In Prioritize my accounts mode, start from your actual target list: how many accounts, how many with a strong fit, how many showing intent, and how many accounts your team can run one-to-one each quarter.

The formulas

  • TAM = companies in the market × ACV
  • SAM = TAM × share matching your ICP
  • SOM = SAM × share you can win in 3 years
  • Accounts to engage per quarter = (objective / ACV) / (account→opportunity × win rate) / 4
  • Tiers: Tier 1 = strong fit and intent, capped by your 1:1 capacity; Tier 2 = other strong-fit accounts; Tier 3 = the rest

From market size to an ABM plan

A TAM in billions says little about next quarter. The useful number is the third one: how many accounts you need to engage every quarter to hold your objective. When that number exceeds the companies in your ICP, the objective or the ICP has to change.

Tiering conventions

Size mode applies the usual 5 / 15 / 80% split between one-to-one, one-to-few and one-to-many. Prioritize mode applies conversion multipliers of 2×, 1× and 0.4× by tier to estimate the pipeline your list can produce.

Going further

The number of accounts to engage feeds the pipeline simulator, which turns it into opportunities, account executives and marketing budget.
