Asana vs ClickUp: which fits a growth team

Ask Asana how many languages it ships and you get two answers — ask ClickUp and you get two different ones

Two of Asana’s own help pages list 14 languages on one and 13 on the other, the difference being Bahasa Indonesia. ClickUp’s Help Center names 7 interface languages while its own FAQ lists a different set that adds Portugal Portuguese, and only ClickUp spells out English as United States English specifically. Neither company flags which of its entries are partial translations. Scope compared, criterion by criterion. Checked 7 September 2026.

Getting started, and the fine print
Support
A chatbot, then a ticket. The two-business-hour response commitment is English-only, and Enterprise-onlyAvailable around the clock on every plan, but with a forty-eight-hour response target on free. No phone channel at all
Where the data is hosted
European residency in Germany with backup in Ireland, but profile data stays in the US. Enterprise+ or a paid add-onHosted on AWS. Irish residency exists, but must be requested from sales and only on the Enterprise plan
What happens if you leave
Thirty days after termination to request the export. Past that, the vendor has no obligation to retain anythingData becomes inaccessible the moment you cancel. The addendum commits to deletion within thirty days of a customer request
Minimum seats billed
Two seats at the floor, then fixed buckets: three, four, five, then steps of five, ten, twenty-five and fiftyNo published minimum. But the vendor forbids mixing yearly and monthly licences inside one workspace
Data residency and regulated cloud
Asana claims a FedRAMP Moderate “authorized” status for Asana Gov, which its own help article states more cautiously, without that word. A HIPAA BAA is obtained on the Enterprise+ tier, activated within 24 hours in the Admin Console. Contradiction: its privacy page lists the US among its data centers; its Trust Center page does not.ClickUp hosts on AWS and reserves the choice of region (including the US) to the Enterprise plan, at no added cost. The vendor holds its own SOC 1/2/3, ISO 27001/27017/27018/27701/42001; SOC 2 Type 2 is also attributed to AWS as the host. A HIPAA BAA exists only on the Enterprise plan; FedRAMP, StateRAMP, and GovCloud are absent from the pages tested.
Interface languages shipped
Two of Asana's help pages disagree: one lists fourteen interface languages, the other thirteen, omitting Bahasa Indonesia. English stays a single entry, with no US or UK variant and no partial translation flagged.ClickUp's Help Center lists seven interface languages, including English explicitly named “(United States)”; the vendor FAQ gives a different list, adding Portugal Portuguese. Neither page flags partial translation.
What it costs
The entry price and what it includes
$10.99 per user per month billed annually on Starter, $13.49 monthly. No workload and no time tracking at that tier$7 per user per month billed annually on Unlimited, $10 monthly. Workload and Timeline stay capped at that tier
What pushes the bill up
Rounding up to the next seat bucket: a team of thirty-two pays for forty seats. Then the jump to AdvancedAI as an add-on at $9 or $28 per user per month, and permission-controlled guests past the included allowance
Sales tax and nexus
Asana charges sales tax at state and local level from the billing address, no published state list; only exemptions are named, a form for New York, an affidavit for Colorado. The Terms place the tax burden on the customer.ClickUp charges sales tax across nineteen states, DC, Chicago, and Puerto Rico, based on the checkout address; exemption is not automatic. The Terms place the burden on the customer; no calculation is offered for their own sales.

Key takeaways

Fourteen languages on one Asana page, thirteen on another

Two of Asana’s own help pages disagree with each other: one lists fourteen interface languages, the other thirteen, the gap being Bahasa Indonesia. English stays a single entry on both, with no US or UK variant named and no partial-translation flag attached to any language.

Seven languages according to one ClickUp page, a different seven-plus according to another

ClickUp’s Help Center lists seven interface languages; its own vendor FAQ gives a different list that adds Portugal Portuguese. As with Asana, neither ClickUp page marks any language as partially translated.

The one detail ClickUp bothers to spell out

Of the two vendors, only ClickUp names a regional variant at all: its Help Center lists English explicitly as “English (United States).” Asana’s own count, on either of its disagreeing pages, keeps English as one undifferentiated entry.

A vendor’s own certificate is not its host’s

ClickUp hosts on AWS and holds its own SOC 1, SOC 2, and SOC 3 certifications, separately from the SOC 2 Type 2 that AWS itself holds as the host; ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, 27701, and 42001 are named for the vendor as well. Region choice, including the United States, is reserved for the Enterprise plan at no added cost, and a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement exists only on that same plan; FedRAMP, StateRAMP, and GovCloud are absent from the pages tested. Asana, on its side, claims a FedRAMP Moderate “authorized” status for Asana Gov that its own help article states more cautiously, without that word, and its privacy page and Trust Center page disagree on whether the United States even appears among its data centers.

Whose sales tax, and who calculates it

Asana charges sales tax at the state and local level from the billing address, with no published list of states, naming only two exemption routes, a form for New York and an affidavit for Colorado. ClickUp instead charges sales tax across nineteen named states, the District of Columbia, Chicago, and Puerto Rico, based on the checkout address, with exemption not automatic; both vendors’ terms place the burden on the customer regardless.

jordan@bulldozer-collective.com
Do Asana’s own help pages agree on how many languages it ships?
No: one Asana help page lists fourteen interface languages, another lists thirteen, omitting Bahasa Indonesian, with English kept as a single entry with no US or UK variant. ClickUp shows the same kind of mismatch: its Help Center names 7 languages, including an English tagged United States, while its own FAQ gives a different list that adds Portugal Portuguese.
How quickly can a HIPAA agreement be activated on Asana?
On the Enterprise+ tier, Asana’s HIPAA business associate agreement activates within 24 hours directly in the Admin Console. ClickUp likewise reserves its HIPAA BAA for the Enterprise plan, but FedRAMP, StateRAMP and GovCloud stay absent from both vendors’ pages, and Asana’s own privacy page and Trust Center page even disagree on whether the US appears among its data centers.
In how many US jurisdictions does ClickUp charge sales tax?
ClickUp charges US sales tax across 19 states plus DC, Chicago and Puerto Rico, based on the checkout address, with exemption never automatic. Asana publishes no state list at all, naming only two exemption paths, a form for New York and an affidavit for Colorado, with both vendors’ terms placing the tax burden on the customer.
