Ahrefs vs Ubersuggest: budget versus depth

Ubersuggest’s own pages can’t agree how long a “lifetime” license lasts

Ubersuggest sells a lifetime license, priced nowhere on its own pages, called “50 years” in one help article, a “permanent” access in another, and “as long as the site exists, at the publisher’s discretion” in its own Terms; the vendor’s own address contradicts itself too, San Diego, California in the Terms against Las Vegas, Nevada in the Privacy Notice. Ahrefs, more conventionally, offers no refund policy at all and simply drops a canceled account to its free tier. Scope compared, criterion by criterion. Checked 7 September 2026.

What the tool answers
What it measures or produces
Estimates: search volume, difficulty and organic traffic by keyword and by domain, rebuilt once a monthA link and page index: 35 trillion backlinks kept in history, 493.9 billion pages
The job it equips
The solo search marketer: a freelancer, consultant or lone in-house marketer running one or two sites without a teamThe SEO consultant and the link builder: auditing a site, tracking rankings, prospecting for links
What it cannot tell you
What happened this week: the dataset is rebuilt once a month, and the processing alone can take six daysYour actual traffic: volumes and clicks are estimated, never measured, and no conversion is tied to them
Day-to-day SEO work
Rank tracking
Weekly only, Google only, with mobile switched off by default. Daily checks were discontinued across every planWeekly by default, from country to ZIP code across 190+ locations, mobile and desktop tracked separately; no search engine is named
How far the history goes
Twelve months of keyword volume history, three years of link history, with new and lost links over thirty daysTwo contradictory figures from the vendor: 16 years on the Big Data page, 10 years or more on Site Explorer
Keyword research
A claimed hundred-million-keyword database sourced from Google, with SEO difficulty, cost per click, paid difficulty and intentThree contradictory index sizes depending on the page: 28.7, 20.4 or 12 billion. Google alone documented; difficulty, clicks, CPC and traffic potential
Backlink analysis
No in-house crawler: links come from the Moz API on a monthly refresh. Disavow files are built by hand in Search Console35 trillion live links, with the index refreshed every 15 to 30 minutes, but no built-in disavow tool
Technical audit
A weekly crawl capped at one, five or ten thousand pages, with desktop and mobile speed. No named Core Web Vitals, no logsOver 170 checks, Core Web Vitals through CrUX and Lighthouse using your own Google key, JavaScript rendering; log analysis undocumented
Content production
An AI writer in sixty-three languages, exported as PDF, Word or HTML, ten thousand words monthly. No brief, no score, no plagiarism checkAn editor that scores the article out of 100 against top-ranking pages, inline AI rewriting; no structured brief, no built-in plagiarism check
SERP analysis
An AI visibility module tracks brand mentions, share of voice and sentiment. No AI-sourced traffic is measured19 SERP features including AI Overviews. AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Gemini tracked, with AI traffic measured separately
Competitors' advertising
No ad intelligence module: only the paid traffic share, the cost per click and a paid difficulty scoreGoogle search ads only, with history and estimated spend; no display, no social, and ad networks are not identified
Audience data
None. The published estimation method rests on three inputs only: search volume, position and click-through rate by positionNo demographics and no audience overlap: Web Analytics stays first-party, cookieless, with no tracking across sites
Mobile apps
No native app. The only client outside the browser is an extension, available for Chrome aloneNo module at all: neither App Store nor Google Play appears in the official list of fourteen Ahrefs tools
Local SEO
City-level rankings and local keyword research, but no business listings and no review management in the productGBP Monitor in beta on every paid plan, rankings down to ZIP code and Local Pack tracked; review management undocumented

Getting started, and the fine print
Support
One email address, identical from the first tier to the last. No hours, no response time, no chat and no phoneMultilingual chat 24 hours a day on every tier; a dedicated account manager and tailored onboarding are reserved for Enterprise
Where the data is hosted
No product-specific policy. The parent agency's names the United States and the European Economic Area, without locating any serversUnited States according to the privacy policy, United States and Singapore according to the list of subprocessors
What happens if you leave
Cancel freely, but a lifetime purchase is never refunded and project data is deleted after a period the vendor never statesNo refund as a matter of policy; the account drops to the free tier and the vendor has no obligation to return your data
Minimum seats billed
None: one seat on the entry tier, which allows no extra user at all. Two on Business, five on EnterpriseNone: one user is included on every tier outside Enterprise, and further users are added one at a time
Data residency and regulated cloud
Ubersuggest hosts on AWS us-east-1 (Virginia), no customer residency choice. The article denies any public SOC2 or ISO 27001 certification (updated 2026-03-17): cert is AWS's alone. FedRAMP, StateRAMP, GovCloud, BAA absent.Ahrefs places data in the US, no region named, hosted on AWS (sub-processor in USA/Singapore). No certification of its own; SOC 2 only planned. FedRAMP, StateRAMP, GovCloud, HIPAA/BAA absent from all 4 pages tested 2026-09-07.
What it costs
The entry price and what it includes
$29 per month: one domain only, 125 tracked keywords and 150 reports a day. A second domain pushes you up a tier$29 per month on Starter: 200 credits, 250 rows per report, no export and no additional users
What pushes the bill up
Add-ons at $5 per month each, billed monthly even on a lifetime licence, plus the daily report ceilingAny user going past five credits triggers an automatic $20, after which credits are bought back in batches of five hundred
Sales tax and nexus
No sales tax announced; the vendor (Neil Patel Digital, LLC) is its own merchant of record. Terms: tax burden on the buyer, no state list or nexus. Address contradiction: San Diego CA (terms) vs. Las Vegas NV (Privacy Notice).Ahrefs charges sales tax on top of the US price, in a list of states that includes Texas, New York and Washington DC; the table was not legible enough to count them. No local rates published, and nexus is left to the buyer.
Procurement and invoicing
No invoice option; self-serve only, Enterprise included (card, PayPal, Google Pay). No PO, net-30, ACH, or W-9 in 28 articles. Lifetime license sold (price unpublished), called “50 years,” “permanent,” or “while the site exists.”Non-card billing exists only at Enterprise (USD 1,499/month, annual commitment): help center names invoice or wire, pricing page only wire — both versions reported. Below that, card only; PO, net-30, ACH, W-9 absent.

Key takeaways

Ubersuggest’s lifetime license gets three different lifespans

Ubersuggest sells a lifetime license with no price published anywhere on its own pages. One help article calls its length “fifty years”; another calls the access simply “permanent”; its own Terms call it good “as long as the site exists, at the publisher’s discretion” instead — three different answers to the same question, none of them retracted by the others.

The company selling it can’t settle on its own address either

The vendor behind Ubersuggest, Neil Patel Digital, LLC, names San Diego, California as its address in its own Terms, and Las Vegas, Nevada in its own Privacy Notice — two different cities claimed as home by the same company, on two documents it still publishes side by side.

Ahrefs doesn’t contradict itself on refunds, it just doesn’t offer one

Ahrefs treats the absence of a refund as a matter of policy rather than an oversight: a canceled account drops straight to the free tier, and the vendor states no obligation to return the data that account held.

Neither vendor names an actual US region for its own host

Ubersuggest hosts on AWS us-east-1, in Virginia, with no residency choice offered to the customer; an article updated in March 2026 denies any public SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification of its own, stating the certification belongs to AWS alone, and FedRAMP, StateRAMP, GovCloud, and a HIPAA business associate agreement are all absent. Ahrefs names the US too, with no region stated, hosted on AWS with a subprocessor in the US and Singapore, and its own SOC 2 is still only planned rather than issued.

Sales tax is silence at one vendor, a named list at the other

Ubersuggest announces no sales tax at all; Neil Patel Digital, LLC serves as its own merchant of record, and its Terms place the tax burden on the buyer with no state list or nexus statement published anywhere. Ahrefs adds sales tax on top of its listed price, in a state list naming Texas, New York, and Washington, DC, though the rest of that list was too illegible to count on the page tested.

The entry price is identical, twenty-nine dollars, describing two different products

Ubersuggest costs twenty-nine US dollars a month: one domain, a hundred twenty-five tracked keywords, and a hundred fifty reports a day. Ahrefs costs the same twenty-nine dollars a month on its Starter tier: two hundred credits, two hundred fifty rows per report, no export, and no additional users — the same number describing two entirely different products.

How does Ubersuggest itself describe the duration of its lifetime license?
Inconsistently: Ubersuggest offers no invoice option, selling self-serve by card, PayPal, or Google Pay; its lifetime license, at an unpublished price, is called 50 years in one place, permanent elsewhere, and while the site exists in a third. Ahrefs opens non-card billing only at Enterprise. Ubersuggest itself gives three answers.
Does Ubersuggest’s own address stay consistent across its legal pages?
No: Ubersuggest announces no sales tax, its vendor Neil Patel Digital LLC acting as its own merchant of record; its address contradicts itself, San Diego in the Terms versus Las Vegas in the Privacy Notice. Ahrefs, by contrast, charges tax in states including Texas and New York. Ubersuggest cannot even confirm its own city.
Which specific AWS region does Ubersuggest name for hosting?
Ubersuggest hosts on AWS us-east-1, in Virginia, with no customer choice of residency, and no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 of its own, since that certification belongs to AWS alone. Ahrefs says it hosts in the US with no specific region, and has only a planned SOC 2. Ubersuggest is the more precise of the two, though without a certification to match.
